Welcome to the home of the Universal Extinction Constant

The purpose of this website is to promote understanding of the Universal Extinction Constant, the true value of measuring the Extinction Threat Level facing humanity and the need to supersede the Doomsday Clock. Please stay a while and see if you'd like to share the vision.

In 2003 the Astronomer Royal and President of the Royal Society, Lord Martin Rees, stated that in his opinion the odds were no better than 50/50 that our present civilisation will survive to the end of the present century.

In 2006 the respected scientist Dr Stephen Hawking asked:-

"How can the human race survive the next hundred years?"

Posing this question acknowledges that the human race faces many challenges which need to be managed on a global scale.

The fact is that you can only manage what you measure.

Imagine then a simple measure which can be influenced by, and applied to, any human being, irrespective of their location in time or space. The Universal Extinction Constant (UEC) is a constant variable. Its changing value is termed the Extinction Threat Level (ETL) a measure that is easy to understand and which everyone can influence. Every event and activity can be expressed in terms of its impact on the ETL, be it positive, neutral or negative. Used as a common measure, ETL could engender positive, aspirational and challenging goals, providing a vision for a better and sustainable future for us all. Our individual legacies will be how we have each impacted the ETL for the human race. Surely future generations will judge us on this.

Please visit the pages on the left to see a detailed overview of the UEC, its potential benefits, the vision, the current human ETL and the assertion that we must supersede the Doomsday Clock.
